A Root Canal
1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be
rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful
lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of
money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have
erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (KJV)
When there is a problem with a tooth they
have to drill down and get to the root to get rid of the infection. When
our Lord gave us His Word, it is like a Spiritual root canal, going deep to
get to the core of man’s destruction.
Ecclesiastes 5:13-14 There is a sore evil
which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof
to their hurt. (14) But those riches perish by evil travail: and he
begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. (KJV)
Just like with a dentist, they have to
drill into the sore area to get at the infection. With many of God’s people
today (because it is already a given that the world is fallen for the love
of money) the Lord drills down into a sore area for us as well, because we
were so accustomed in our past to love and treasure the things in the
outward realm thinking that they could bring peace or contentment.
Proverbs 28:20-22 A faithful man shall
abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be
innocent. (21) To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of
bread that man will transgress. (22) He that hasteth to be rich hath an
evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. (KJV)
Why are so many people falling for these
cheap prosperity messages that are being peddled as the real deal? You know
that the last thing that you would want to do after a root canal is to come
back and have it done all over again. Well, why do so many promote
something that is contrary to sound doctrine and then wonder why they still
live in doubt and fear? Instead of partaking of all the Spiritual blessings
that we have in Christ, the enemy has many running to and fro seeking
carnal things instead which they claim are blessings.
Ezekiel 22:12 In thee have they taken
gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast
greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me,
saith the Lord GOD. (KJV)
Ever see these books where you can draw
by connecting the dots? Well, when one has fallen for the love of money
more than a love for God, then the conclusion they end up drawing is one
that leads to more heartache and misery, and certainly not peace.
Matthew 19:21-23 Jesus said unto him, If
thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and
thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. (22) But when
the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great
possessions. (23) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto
you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. (KJV)
When it came time for a certain rich man
to do some root canal work it looks like being rich really wasn’t all it
was cracked up to be, was it? Instead of these riches making him joyful, in
the end it was just the opposite, and was actually more of a hindrance than
a blessing.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus saith the LORD, Let
not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in
his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: (24) But let him that
glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the
LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the
earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. (KJV)
Verse 24 gives us an example of the Lord’s
root canal work. Is it working for you?
