Lights Out
Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the
eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of
light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. (KJV)
Ever hear the term “lights out”? Actually
it is used to describe someone who got knocked out or unconscious, mainly
because they ran into or got hit by something they didn’t see coming, which
usually happens at night or when someone can’t see. Which realm has your
attention today; the outward temporal one, or the inward eternal one?
Because if you are not watching, you just might get hit and knocked out by
a doctrine or lust you should have seen coming.
From Wycliffe Commentary
The lamp of the body, that which receives
and dispenses the light, is the eye. If the eye, used here figuratively for
one's spiritual understanding, be single (opposite of "twofold"),
not afflicted with double vision in this matter of treasures —an affliction
which is evil —then the individual can regard riches in their proper
perspective. The impossibility of serving two masters in a slave
relationship is a graphic illustration. Mammon. Though its derivation is
uncertain, it appears to be an Aramaic word for wealth, here personified.
Note that Jesus condemns not wealth but enslavement to wealth.
Luke 16:13-15 No servant can serve two
masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he
will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon. (14) And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these
things: and they derided him. (15) And he said unto them, Ye are they which
justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which
is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. (KJV)
While our Lord would like to usher you
into His kingdom, so that you can take a seat in His heavenly theatre, the
enemy would like you to attend another screening, one that is leading to a
dead end. While on the path of life you will find that many are still
pursuing the things of man, even those that claim to be of God; while a few
are really following the Lord’s leading, letting His word be the light that
leads them. Trying to serve two masters will not work, because you will
become double minded and unstable. In order to grab onto the things of God
you will need to let go the things of this world, the affections and lusts
that lead to darkness rather than light.
1 Timothy 6:9-11 But they that will be
rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful
lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of
money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have
erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (11)
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (KJV)
Obviously many have been blindsided and
sucker punched by the enemy, getting mankind to chase after things that our
Lord promised He would provide for His people. Many of God’s so called
preachers have double vision and have been knocked groggy, preaching more
for a love of money rather than teaching the love of God. The Lord turned a
light on for us to follow, while the enemy is trying to get us to follow a
false hope that will only end up drowning us and knocking our lights out
permanently, if not dealt with and given heed to.
