I Knew That

2 Peter 2:18-22 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. (19) While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. (20) For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. (21) For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. (22) But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (KJV)

The Bible warns us of many (not just a few) false prophets that are out and about speaking things that are contrary to sound doctrine. While many of man’s doctrines promise liberty, many times in the form of a love of money and not a love for the Lord, once you have become aware of the way of righteousness it is vital that you stay on that path and not be moved away or talked out of your inheritance. The devil does not have the power to move you away from the path of life; however, his method is to subtly talk you back into the realm of the flesh, enticing you with the pleasures of this fallen realm.

Strong’s definition for ‘knowledge’:

1922  epignosis (ep-ig'-no-sis); from 1921; recognition, i.e. (by implication) full discernment, acknowledgement: KJV-- (ac-) knowledge (-ing, -ment).

Once you have been made aware of the kingdom of God and what is taking place in His realm, He expects you to continue on that path and not turn back again to the things or people of this fallen realm to find peace or contentment again. You know, you wouldn’t allow a pig into your house let alone a dog that is hurling chunks, so don’t expect a welcome home parade the day of judgment either if your lifestyle resembles either one of these two descriptions. If you go through the Bible you will see that references to dogs, pigs, or swine are those that are kept on the outside and not inside. So also will be the end result for those that ignore the knowledge of God and fall for their own carnal thinking.

James 4:13-17 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: (14) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (15) For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. (16) But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. (17) Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (KJV)

Remember what the Word says is the root of all evil? Yeah, the love of money. What we see being addressed in the above verses is the motive of the heart; why do you pursue the things you do, and what are your motives based on? Once you committed your life to Christ you told Him that He could have your whole life, not just bits and pieces and you would handle the rest. Once you have become aware of the kingdom of God and how to walk according to His knowledge, then He expects you to continue to grow in that, and not return to the pigpen of this fallen realm thinking that it will make you whole. Oh, and you do know what the Lord is asking of you personally even though you try to ignore Him or play dumb. However, if you get tired of not moving forward in your walk, or experiencing the new life that is available to those in Christ, then you will give heed to His correction and get rid of the sin that does so easily harass and hold you back from a joy, peace, and confidence in your walk with the Lord.

Romans 14:22-23 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. (23) And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (KJV)

That person or situation that you got involved with, or are in the process of getting involved with, is it something that you can do faithfully? Is your life based on what you are hearing personally from the Lord, or are you more influenced by your limited outward vision? Without faith it is impossible to please God; so if you are in a situation where there are question marks, or any doubt, or gray areas, it would do you well to hold off until you can move forward faithfully.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (KJV)

Deep down in that heart of yours you know that the Lord is speaking to you; and rather than allow Him to have His way many depart looking for an easier path. However, that path that seems easier to the outward man is an abomination to the inward one, and not a path that you will find any peace or contentment on either. The worst part of all of this is that many of God’s people start out knowing what is right but fall short of the glory of God.

Hebrews 3:12-14 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (13) But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (14) For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; (KJV)

That ear tickling feel good stuff about once saved always saved, well, only if one continues giving ear to the message being delivered through Christ and not by some other cheap imitator.

Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. (KJV)

I knew that. Yes you did, and you are expected to keep in the know; knowing more the things above by forgetting those things which are behind, like the tail end so to speak.
