Supplication

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (7) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (KJV)

Supplication is a request, a need; or a petition was another way to describe it. So what exactly are you seeking in your daily requests, is it more in line with the Spiritual or the carnal realm? Given the fact that God is a Spirit and He can only be worshipped in Spirit and in truth, it would do you well to seek more the things above and not get so caught up in the things below.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (KJV)

What you need to realize is that your supply list changed once you were born again. What was once a pursuit of carnal riches of this fallen life has now become a new desire to seek the riches which are in Christ, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge that He has provided for His people to operate in. Actually, when something comes to mind and you take the time to pray about it what you are doing is asking the Lord if it is something that He decided for you before the foundation of the world. That’s the part where the peace of God comes in; because all you are doing in essence is seeking confirmation of what came to mind and that you prayed about is something that the Lord intended for you as well, and now all you are doing is seeking His confirmation from above.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. (19) For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. (20) And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. (KJV)

You know, a lot of people come to God and actually think that they can dictate their life to Him, and all they have to do is pray about it, and poof, it is done. As one grows and matures in the Lord what they learn is, that the more they can keep themselves out the way, that being their carnal thinking, the more they will walk the way the Lord intended for them. Growing and maturing in the Lord does not mean that you can now rattle off and recite more scriptures than someone else, but rather you realize that the Lord had a plan and purpose for your life before the foundation of the world. So you now desire to become wise, or operate in the wisdom of God? Then you need to realize how foolish it is to think that by your worrying or fretting about things here on earth that it is going to change the outcome one bit.

1 John 3:18-20 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. (19) And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. (20) For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. (KJV)

The word condemn means to find fault with; so basically speaking, someone that should be living and loving our Lord in deed and not just in word is getting into an area that they don’t belong in. If one does not have the peace of God in a situation that they have prayed about then that would definitely be something to walk away from rather than pursue.

1 John 3:21-24 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. (22) And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (23) And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. (24) And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. (KJV)

You know, many people do get born again and have an experience with our Lord, only to walk away and not continue in it. A few, and yes the word ‘few’ is fitting, because in order to continue your walk with the Lord you will need to walk a path that He ordained and not you. As we see illustrated in the above verses, our Lord is quite clear on how to stay in good standing with Him.

James 4:13-17 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: (14) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (15) For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. (16) But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. (17) Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (KJV)

Remember what we just saw earlier about those that think they are wise, yeah, in reality they are fools. Many people base their life on the outward, and what looks best according to their outward vision, while those few that continue to walk with the Lord know better. Oh, and don’t try to play dumb with God, because that thing that you know is not right, or that person you should not be associating with, in your heart you know it is not right, and that it is not something or someone that was truly on our Lord’s supply list of what you had need of.
