Killer Of A Law
Romans 7:9-14 For I was alive without the
law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. (10) And
the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. (11)
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew
me. (12) Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and
good. (13) Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But
sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good;
that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. (14) For we know
that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. (KJV)
Paul gives his own description of the old
law, and how he had to deal with it himself. Was the old law in itself a
bad thing? What it did was give the people in the Old Testament a heads up,
a warning to show them what was not pleasing to God and the things that they
could do that would cover the sin, but it was not able to remove it. In
fact Paul makes mention of the fact that he himself was alive and doing
well after his own conversion, but like with many of God’s people, when he
tried to return to the works of the old law he found out that it was now a
dead end. The old law and what its purpose was, is now done away, because
for all those who are in Christ they are a new creation, walking according
to the new law of faith.
2 Corinthians 3:5-6 Not that we are
sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our
sufficiency is of God; (6) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new
testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth,
but the spirit giveth life. (KJV)
Don’t you just get tired of watching all
these religious people and all their religious stuff that they think will
impress God? People that base their walk on the letter of the law and not on
the new law of the Spirit where there is real life and results. Oh you have
to get dunked in water, and when you are done with that then take a wafer
of bread and wash it down with a shot of wine, there, now you are in good
standing with God, right? Our Lord came that you would have His life and
have it more abundantly; that is why He lived a life without sin, and was
the only one that could fulfill the law once and for all. Everyone else
before Him would sin and fall short because it took the Spirit of Christ,
the second man from heaven, to do the completed work necessary to accomplish
it.
Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come
to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to
fulfil. (18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot
or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (KJV)
Our Lord didn’t just come and wave a
magic wand and say “abra, cadabra” the old law is done away, but rather He
came to fulfill what was spoken of by the prophets of old. Now that the law
is fulfilled, it has been replaced by a much simpler, newer, and more
effective law of faith that allows us access to the throne of God.
Romans 5:10-12 For if, when we were
enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more,
being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (11) And not only so, but
we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now
received the atonement. (12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all
have sinned: (KJV)
Things got so complicated once sin was
introduced to mankind, but it gets so much simpler knowing what the second
man from heaven has accomplished for us. We have been delivered from this
death sentence as well as the old law that only one man could live by and
overcome, that man is Jesus Christ who is establishing His people by the new
law of faith, hearing His message being delivered to His people so that
they can be delivered as well.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him,
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind. (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) And
the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (40) On
these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (KJV)
Hey folks, the Lord came to make things
simple, to straighten out the crooked paths, to enlighten our lives to a
new and simple way to walk in the Spirit no longer influenced by the things
of our flesh. Are you keeping it simple people, or do you still think you
need to follow a bunch of carnal laws and ordinances that our Lord already
fulfilled on our behalf?
Romans 10:2-4 For I bear them record that
they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. (3) For they being
ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own
righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
(4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that
believeth. (KJV)
What was Israel’s problem that Paul
identified as a hindrance in their walk? Well, pretty much the same thing that
we see going on today all around us; people that do believe and have a zeal
to serve our Lord but not according to the new Spiritual wisdom and
knowledge that we now have access to in Christ. Basically history keeps
repeating itself, people begin their walk in the Spirit and then think that
it can be perfected by works, which usually ends up to be the works of the
old law that is no longer in play anymore.
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not
justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even
we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith
of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law
shall no flesh be justified. (KJV)
Have you seen those commercials lately
that advertise for a cell phone company, and they make reference to the
dead zones? Well, for those that try to establish their good standing with
God according to the works of the old law, they are in that dead zone and
the line of communication is cut off until they get back to faith apart
from these works. Basically speaking, for those that try to establish their
right standing with God according to these works, they are telling Him that
His Son did not do a completed work; they are telling Him that He is a liar,
which is a killer of a doctrine to say the least.
