A Streetcar Named Desire

Ephesians 2:1-3 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (KJV)

In the old days they had streetcars that were similar to the buses we have today where one could jump on and get to their destination quickly and easily. Many would use this form of transportation because it was easy, and many others were riding it as well. Once one is born again they find out that the direction the Lord is leading them in, His desire for their life, is no longer based on a carnal direction, but rather a much less popular one, that being a Spiritual one.

1 Peter 4:1-4 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; (2) That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. (3) For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: (4) Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: (KJV)

You know, while many are hopping aboard an easy ride there are a few who have decided to jump ship and walk a different path; that being a Spiritual one that leads to their eternal destination. Taking the path of least resistance is the one that is widely traveled; the only problem is that it is misleading, a path that leads to destruction. What is your real desire today; and did you take the time to arm yourself with the mind of Christ so that you don’t end up on a vessel heading down hill fast, one that will eventually crash and burn? God has a plan, a desire for your life as well, one that He requests His people to follow so that they don’t end up in an eternal ditch with their wheels spinning out of control.

1 John 2:14-17 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. (15) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (17) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (KJV)

You know all those things we used to desire and crave, wrong desire heading in the wrong direction? How did the people become strong and able to overcome? Well quite simple actually, they kept their Spiritual senses exercised and knew the difference between what was of God and what was not. They kept their desire in line with what God desired for their walk, thus letting His peace rule in all their decisions. So when a streetcar named desire (that being a desire for the things of this world) came by they just waved and kept walking in the opposite direction letting all the new wavers pass by as well. Take a good look around you today because this present world and its way of thinking is passing away, and so are all those that are hanging onto it. My prayer for each and every believer today is that they are not hanging onto anything of this life more than the eternal life that is theirs for the taking, this day, right now.

James 2:19-20 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. (20) But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (KJV)

You can believe all you want as many claim that they do; in fact even the devils believed but look where they end up. If you desire not to end up with them, as well as many who claim they are of God, then you will need to follow through in your commitment with God, in walk and not just talk.

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (KJV)

You know, a dead body is just a shell of what at one time housed a spirit. There are many body of believers, who are just as dead also because instead of setting their affection and desire on things above they fell for the things of this life; choosing to walk more by sight rather than by faith.
