Buried Treasure

1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (KJV)

When you go back in the Old Testament and see what God had Moses demonstrate, we see that the devil and his workers would come along with an imitation, something to throw the people off from the truth. As we see written in the verses above, Paul gets to the heart of the matter, the root cause of all evil, which is the love of money. Although some claim money is the root of all evil it is actually something spiritual, it is ‘the love of it’ that brings many down, drowning them spiritually as well in destruction and ruin.

Colossians 3:5-7 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: (6) For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: (7) In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. (KJV)

If you also go back to the Old Testament you will see the word ‘idolatry’ mentioned many times and what happened to those that got caught up into these practices. Once again we see this manifested in the New Testament which surfaces in the form of covetousness, something we should be fleeing from and forsaking rather than embracing. Just like those in the Old Testament, those that chose to pursue idolatry end up separated from God rather than drawing closer to Him.

Proverbs 2:1-5 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; (2) So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; (3) Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; (4) If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; (5) Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. (KJV)

Hey, here is a thought, what if you now directed all that energy and concern you had for the things of this life toward the things of your eternal life? Well according to the Word of God that is the only way you will find out what the true treasures are; those treasures that have been hidden to the carnal man but ready to be revealed to the spiritual man; ready to be revealed to those that truly desire to worship our Lord in Spirit and in truth. How many of you if you knew that there was a treasure buried in your back yard would not have your yard dug up by nightfall? Knowing there is an eternal treasure hidden, ready to be dug up and revealed spiritually, how many of you would put the same effort into digging up this one as well? Well quite frankly that is the mindset and effort that it will take if you truly desire to partake of this Spiritual wealth and find out who you are in Christ, and how to operate in His wisdom and knowledge.

Colossians 2:1-4 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; (2) That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; (3) In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (4) And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. (KJV)

Hmmmm, you wonder why Paul encountered such conflict and opposition? Paul knew where the true riches of God were and how to dig them up and utilize them. You know, if those around you knew you had a treasure buried in your back yard and saw you digging it up, how much opposition would you encounter from those that would want to steal it away? In Christ there is an eternal unending treasure chest of Spiritual wisdom and knowledge from above ready to be tapped into and accessed by those that are willing to forsake the cheap imitations of those below. But alas, how simple, yet how overlooked by so many that think they could ever find true peace and contentment in this fallen realm when the Word is so specific to point us away from this realm and into a far greater eternal one.

Romans 11:33-34 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (34) For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? (KJV)

Have you ever seen movies where they follow a treasure map and after much opposition and struggle, find the buried treasure? So who has known the mind of the Lord, and who is able to understand His judgments? Well not those that are in the flesh, those that have limited their desires and riches according to the world and not the Word. However, for those that have their minds renewed in the things of the Spirit, they are able to see all the Spiritual blessings they have been blessed with in Christ, and operate with the same mind as the Lord.

James 2:5-7 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? (6) But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? (7) Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? (KJV)

Those that are willing to forsake the things of this life will inherit the things of their eternal one. Those that continue to seek their wealth and substance with the things of this life will lose their eternal one. Being rich is not all that it’s cracked up to be, well at least not rich in this world. However, for those who seek their buried treasure in the realm of the Spirit will find it; while those that seek the buried treasure of this realm will find themselves digging up the dirt in a graveyard, a dead place with dead end results.
