Let My People Go
Exodus 5:1-3 And afterward Moses and
Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my
people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. (2) And
Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel
go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. (3) And they said,
The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three
days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he
fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. (KJV)
Today when looking at this account in the
above verses let’s try a different take or perspective on them and how they
relate to us as well. Let’s look at Moses and Pharaoh representing the two
natures; Pharaoh being our lower fallen nature, and the other, that being
Moses, symbolizing the new nature in Christ that we are partakers in today.
As we see represented in the above verses, God had intended for His people
to move forward in their walk, away from the bondage and hardship of the
life they were now in.
Exodus 5:4-7 And the king of Egypt said
unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their
works? get you unto your burdens. (5) And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people
of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens. (6) And
Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their
officers, saying, (7) Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick,
as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves. (KJV)
If you choose on your own to read the
whole account here, you basically see that Pharaoh, similar to our old
nature, was rebelling and decided to make things harder on the people. You
know, for yourselves, don’t be surprised either when the Lord is asking you
to move forward in your walk out of your former comfort zone and into a new
and better life that He has for His people, that you encounter some
resistance as well.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for
to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life,
and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
The reason God sent His Son is so that we
could partake of a new life, one free from sin and bondage; basically a
death sentence until the sacrifice had been paid. The enemy plays on our
old nature trying to get us to hang onto old things so that we won’t
partake of the new life we now have access to in Christ. Rather than
looking behind, you know like our Lord warned us about concerning putting
our hand to His plow, look in front and you will see more of the love, joy,
and peace that our Lord is having you walk towards. Ohhh, but how that old
fallen Pharaoh type nature in us still hangs on, basically challenging God
and calling Him out.
Exodus 5:1-4 And afterward Moses and
Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my
people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. (2) And
Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel
go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go. (3) And they said,
The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three
days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he
fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. (4) And the king of Egypt
said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their
works? get you unto your burdens. (KJV)
Seeing the similarities yet; the
difference between the old and the new? How many times has the Lord spoken
to us as well, reaching out in a loving way to set us free, and how often
do we ignore His counsel because we had something else we thought was more
important?
Mark 4:18-19 And these are they which are
sown among thorns; such as hear the word, (19) And the cares of this world,
and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in,
choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. (KJV)
Just like with Pharaoh, when we as God’s
people become more concerned with earthly matters than with the voice of
God we too will end up headed for a fall, and if not corrected, an eternal
one at that. That voice you hear today, you know, that one you are trying
to drown out and ignore, that is your ticket out of bondage, but only when
you make it a priority.
Exodus 8:1-4 And the LORD spake unto
Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my
people go, that they may serve me. (2) And if thou refuse to let them go,
behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs: (3) And the river shall
bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house,
and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy
servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy
kneadingtroughs: (4) And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy
people, and upon all thy servants. (KJV)
Feeling a little froggy lately? Well, as
you notice when going through the book of Exodus that all these hardships
and miseries could have been avoided, and as you will also notice the hits
just kept on coming toward Pharaoh, getting worse and worse.
1 Corinthians 10:13-14 There hath no
temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who
will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (14) Wherefore,
my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. (KJV)
Whatever form the enemy tries to manifest
as in your walk today God is faithful and has made a way of escape for you from
your personal Egypt (whatever has kept you in bondage to your lower nature),
but you will need to give ear as well and then follow through in deed if
you desire to see a new life in Christ manifest.
