Letting Go
Exodus 9:1-4 Then the LORD said unto
Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the
Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. (2) For if thou refuse
to let them go, and wilt hold them still, (3) Behold, the hand of the LORD
is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses,
upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very
grievous murrain. (4) And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel
and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the
children's of Israel. (KJV)
As we spoke of yesterday, making the
comparison in our own lives and walk with the Lord, that being our old and
new natures, we see once again the Lord reaching out to set His people
free. Now when looking at these verses, it doesn’t mean that God is just
looking for a reason to smite people but rather He is longsuffering,
reaching out so that they could avoid the pitfalls of disobedience, things
that would keep them in bondage and reaping the consequences of it.
Isaiah 1:19-21 If ye be willing and
obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: (20) But if ye refuse and
rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath
spoken it. (21) How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of
judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. (KJV)
You know, the Lord would like to take you
also to a promised land, one much better than this fallen realm. But just
like with Pharaoh, our old stubborn natures like to hang onto old things,
so instead of coming out from among them that are of the world many of God’s
people become likeminded with the world; basically conforming more to the
old than to the new. Do keep in mind though, that if one is not willing and
obedient as well, then there are definitely consequences, reaping what was
sowed. The enemy will give you a highlight reel of all the pleasures you
are missing out on if you let go of old things, the part that he leaves out
is the consequences, which are everlasting compared to the short term
pleasures you fell for.
Psalms 107:20-22 He sent his word, and
healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. (21) Oh that men
would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the
children of men! (22) And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of
thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. (KJV)
Just think what it would be like if we
would give ear to the Lord’s Word the first time; all the pitfalls and our
own destructions could have been avoided rather than entertained as truth.
Revelation 3:19-22 As many as I love, I
rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. (20) Behold, I stand
at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (21) To him that
overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also
overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (22) He that hath
an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (KJV)
Again, when one really stops and thinks
about it, are we not like Pharaoh ourselves? Our old fallen natures would
like to take the easy path, or like in the Staples commercial all we have
to do is press the easy button. The Lord, like with Moses, is coming to
your door knocking to see if you will allow Him access to set Him free in
your own life, letting the Spirit of Christ have free reign and influence
in your walk with Him. Oh, but how many ignore that knock, and rather than
open the door to our Lord they open themselves back up to the enemy who
does all he can to try to keep many of God’s people in whatever bondage
they have fallen for.
1 Corinthians 10:1-5 Moreover, brethren,
I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under
the cloud, and all passed through the sea; (2) And were all baptized unto
Moses in the cloud and in the sea; (3) And did all eat the same spiritual
meat; (4) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of
that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (5) But
with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the
wilderness. (KJV)
See the similarities between the old and
the new, and how we relate to the children of Israel as well? Oh and just
because you answered the door and began your walk with the Lord, keep in
mind that, that was just the beginning, now you need to continue in this
open door policy if you desire to make it to the promised land as well.
1 Corinthians 10:6-10 Now these things
were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as
they also lusted. (7) Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it
is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. (8) Neither
let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day
three and twenty thousand. (9) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them
also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. (10) Neither murmur ye, as
some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. (KJV)
It goes on and on people, as the children
of Israel ventured out so did the enemy, and tried to get them to fall back
into bondage. I heard it said one time that it took days for the children
of Israel to get out of Egypt, and about 40 years to get Egypt out of them.
Your walk with the Lord is very similar, as you continue on the path He
will continue to prune His people so that they can be a vessel fit and
ready for the Master’s use. Are you letting go of the old?
