This Is It
1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence
that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he
heareth us: (15) And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know
that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (KJV)
Thayer’s definition for
‘confidence’:
3954
parrhesia-
1) freedom in speaking, unreservedness in
speech
a) openly,
frankly, that is, without concealment
2) free and fearless confidence, cheerful
courage, boldness, assurance
You know folks; we are in a life and
death situation, one that will determine our eternal destination. With that
in mind, would it not be safe to say that you would like to know or be
confident in the fact that you are heading in the right direction? Would
you like to know for sure that your prayer requests are not only being
heard but answered as well? If you are asking something that is in
accordance with the will of God for your life then you will know and not
have to guess anymore that it is being heard and responded to accordingly.
However, if you have become double minded, with double vision holding onto
the things of this life, then doubt and fear will creep in and distort your
vision.
James 4:1-4 From whence come wars and
fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in
your members? (2) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and
cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. (3) Ye
ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon
your lusts. (4) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the
friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a
friend of the world is the enemy of God. (KJV)
The above verses remind me of quicksand,
once one step’s into it there is no way out without some help. Also with
quicksand the more one struggles, the faster and deeper they sink. I don’t
see much in the way of peace in the above verses, but rather a lot of anger
and frustration, striving would be another way of looking at it. Instead of
fighting a good fight of faith, holding fast to what the Lord desired for
them, they decided their own desires were more important and opened up a
door to a world of hurt. It seems like the more you desire the things of this
life, the more you end up fighting against God and His desire for your
life. As I read through the Bible I see our Lord is undefeated.
1 Corinthians 13:11-13 When I was a
child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child:
but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (12) For now we see
through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but
then shall I know even as also I am known. (13) And now abideth faith,
hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (KJV)
When I was a child I had many desires,
things I needed, and sometimes things I thought I needed. As one grows and
hopefully matures, they learn to get what they need for themselves, not
relying on someone else so much to take care of them. For a Christian to
truly grow and mature in the realm of the Spirit they find out that their
desires and the Lord’s need to be one in the same. So instead of acting
like babies and crying for things that are not a benefit to your walk, it’s
time to put away all these childish wants that will lead to a further
childish walk if one continues in them. Keep in mind too, that children are
gullible and easily frightened, but as one matures they are able to grow
past their fears.
1 John 4:16-18 And we have known and
believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in
love dwelleth in God, and God in him. (17) Herein is our love made perfect,
that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are
we in this world. (18) There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth
out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in
love. (KJV)
You don’t have to wait until the day of
judgment to experience some boldness or confidence in your walk with the
Lord. God is a spirit and His people are spiritual, those that now worship
Him in Spirit and in truth, letting their love and desire for Him cast out
and remove any fear or doubt of their lower fallen natures.
2 Timothy 1:7-9 For God hath not given us
the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (8) Be
not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his
prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according
to the power of God; (9) Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy
calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and
grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, (KJV)
Do you want get rid of that spirit of
fear that has dogged you and has been nipping at your heels? Then find out
what the Lord’s purpose and will for your life is, and quit accepting
anything less than what our Lord intended for you to walk in; that being
power, love, and a sound mind.
