Your Undivided Attention
1 Timothy 6:9-11 But they that will be
rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful
lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of
money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have
erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (11)
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (KJV)
Do you truly desire to make it to your
eternal destination? Then it will take your undivided attention to make it
there, by fleeing and forsaking the things of this life so that you can
grab hold of and keep the things that pertain to your eternal one. Bottom
line Church, which way are you really headed and which direction or path
are you on today; a narrow Spiritual path that leads to your eternal home,
or a wide heavily traveled path that leads to destruction? As we see in the
above verses, the road that leads to this destruction and ruin is clearly
marked with road signs along the way, marked more by a love for this world
rather than the one we should be inheriting.
Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves
treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves
break through and steal: (20) But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not
break through nor steal: (21) For where your treasure is, there will your
heart be also. (KJV)
You know, it’s not like Paul was making
up some new doctrine or trying to come up with something no one else was
talking about, but rather the Spirit was speaking quite specifically
through him, as it was with our Lord, that the true treasures are located
in the heavenly realm and not in this temporal fallen one. Not only does
moth and rust corrupt carnal treasures, but for those that covet these
things they open the door for a world of hurt in the form of many sorrows;
because instead of experiencing the joy of the Lord the thief is robbing
many blind by getting them entangled with the affairs of this life.
Matthew 6:22-24 The light of the body is
the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of
light. (23) But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of
darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is
that darkness! (24) No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate
the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise
the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (KJV)
Without your undivided, single vision and
focus on the things above, it will be impossible to please God, because you
are no longer walking by faith but rather sight; seeking things in a fallen
realm that will only lead to more heartache and misery. If you think the
light at the end of that tunnel vision you are following is riches, mammon,
an accumulation of earthly wealth, then you will find yourself blindly
heading for a deeper ditch. No man can serve two masters, because the Bible
is quite specific and consistent to point this out all through the Word.
Without a vision, without a clear and precise vision into the realm of the
Spirit and then actually walking the path where the Spirit leads, you cannot
and will not be able to do those things that are pleasing in God’s sight.
Again, take note of the fact that verse 23 makes mention of the eye being
evil knowing what the root of all evil really is.
Proverbs 28:22 He that hasteth to be rich
hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. (KJV)
Looks like someone opened the door and
allowed a spiritual thief to come in and rob them blind. Instead of being
rich in faith, many have become poor excuses for Christians because they
promote and pursue the things of this life instead of an unlimited treasure
chest of wisdom and knowledge which is located at the right hand of God,
there for the taking. Wake up, take a real look at yourself and see which
direction you are really headed before you end up in a ditch following the
guy with the blind bumper sticker.
James 1:8-10 A double minded man is
unstable in all his ways. (9) Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that
he is exalted: (10) But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the
flower of the grass he shall pass away. (KJV)
So what happens when the attention is
divided, when the heart and the things it treasures are no longer of God?
Well, basically you have taken God out of the equation; then as we see in
verse 10, those that choose to pursue the things of this life are getting
ready to pass away rather than having the life of God and having it more
abundantly.
Hosea 10:1-3 Israel is an empty vine, he
bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according
to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to
the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. (2) Their heart is
divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars,
he shall spoil their images. (3) For now they shall say, We have no king,
because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us? (KJV)
God requires our undivided attention and
as we see once again what the result of idolatry is, things that manifested
from a divided heart. What should have been a vine bearing the fruit of the
Spirit is now empty and worthless, ready to be burned.
Psalms 12:1-3 Help, LORD; for the godly
man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men. (2) They
speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a
double heart do they speak. (3) The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips,
and the tongue that speaketh proud things: (KJV)
In conclusion this week, no man can serve
two masters, because in the end you will hold to one and despise the other.
We see that a love for anything other than our Lord will not work; and
anything or imagination that we think will bring peace to our heart other
than the Lord will result in destruction and ruin.
Luke 10:27-28 And he answering said, Thou
shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and
with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
(28) And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou
shalt live. (KJV)
Remember, the just shall live by faith.
