A Greater Witness
John 5:34-36 But I receive not testimony
from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. (35) He was a
burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in
his light. (36) But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works
which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear
witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. (KJV)
If you notice our Lord didn’t send the
people to John so that they could have a confirmation that He was the real
deal, but rather He was confident in the fact that the witness that He was
giving ear to was the greatest one available. Mankind thinks they need big
crowds or other people’s approval in order to be what they consider
successful with God; however, Jesus of Nazareth knew that it didn’t get any
greater than Christ within Him, giving Him a personal witness to the things
of God.
1 John 4:3-5 And every spirit that
confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and
this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should
come; and even now already is it in the world. (4) Ye are of God, little
children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you,
than he that is in the world. (5) They are of the world: therefore speak
they of the world, and the world heareth them. (KJV)
Did you realize that you have this
greater witness available to you also, today, right now? You don’t have to
go running from the north to the east looking for it when it is right
inside of you, right now. If it is not the doctrine of Christ then it is
not of God, but rather these other doctrines resemble more of the world and
its fallen ways than that of Christ. It’s up to you personally to give ear
to this doctrine and find out for yourself what this greater witness is so
that you won’t be taken in by all the cheap phony doctrines that the enemy
and his people are giving witness to.
Romans 8:15-17 For ye have not received
the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of
adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (16) The Spirit itself beareth
witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (17) And if
children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that
we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (KJV)
By giving ear and listening, allowing His
Spirit to bear witness to us personally then we can know for ourselves what
the true doctrine of God is that allows us to be in good standing with Him.
In fact, this doctrine is so liberating that we are no longer considered
separated from God, but rather adopted back into His family, now actually
considered a child of His. A much greater witness than John had, even
though he was considered to be one of the greatest of the old testament
prophets.
Romans 3:3-4 For what if some did not
believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? (4) God
forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That
thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou
art judged. (KJV)
So what if someone that you looked up to
in the past doesn’t go along with what you know to be truth? What if some
of these people were one’s that you considered Godly people, people that you
looked up to in the past? Whose witness do you know is greater?
