A Purchased Possession
Ephesians 1:12-14 That we should be to
the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. (13) In whom ye also
trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your
salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that
holy Spirit of promise, (14) Which is the earnest of our inheritance until
the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. (KJV)
Strong’s definition for ‘earnest’:
728
arrhabon (ar-hrab-ohn'); of Hebrew origin [6162]; a pledge, i.e.
part of the purchase-money or property given in advance as security for the
rest: KJV - earnest.
Thayer’s definition for ‘redemption’:
NT:629 apolutroosis, apolutrooseoos, hee
a. to redeem one
by paying the price
b. to let one go
free on receiving the price: a releasing effected by payment of ransom;
redemption, deliverance, liberation procured by the payment of a ransom;
You know, our Lord put a down payment on
you, and come time the day of judgment He expects you to walk in the
liberty and deliverance He has provided for you. Oh but how so many begin
in the Spirit, and then go right back into the bondage of this world by
thinking that salvation is of works instead of grace. The Holy Spirit is
the down payment that the Lord provided for us, and some day when He comes
to collect on His investment He expects a full return. The fact is that many
have been called, and even answered the call for a season, only to fall
back to the ways of the world and the bondage they were once delivered
from, the latter end being worse than the beginning of their walk. What a
rip off to rob the Lord of the opportunity to work in and through you,
thinking you knew better.
1Peter 2:9-10 But ye are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness
into his marvellous light: (10) Which in time past were not a people, but
are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have
obtained mercy. (KJV)
Strong’s definition for ‘peculiar’:
4047
peripoiesis (per-ee-poy'-ay-sis); from 4046; acquisition (the act or
the thing); by extension, preservation: KJV-- obtain (-ing), peculiar,
purchased, possession, saving.
Now some people think the word peculiar
refers to some oddball, which when watching many of the so called
Christians and some of their forms of so called worship it is fitting, the
reality is that the word refers again to an acquisition, or purchased possession.
Titus 2:13-14 Looking for that blessed
hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus
Christ; (14) Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all
iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
(KJV)
Again we see the same word (peculiar),
and again it is referring to the Lord and what is His possession. Now, I
know that if you went out and bought something, having paid full price for
it, you would expect it to do what you had intended for it to do. So what
kind of return is the Lord getting on His purchased possession, you know,
that one that is looking back at you in the mirror?
