Keeping It Real and Simple
2 Corinthians 11:2-4 For I am jealous
over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that
I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (3) But I fear, lest by any
means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds
should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. (4) For if he
that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye
receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel,
which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. (KJV)
Thayer’s definition for ‘simplicity’:
572
haplotes-
1) singleness,
simplicity, sincerity, mental honesty
the virtue of one
who is free from pretence and hypocrisy
2) not
self-seeking, openness of heart manifesting itself by generosity
This week we will take an honest,
sincere, and simple look at what the Word says, and what mankind has added
to the mix, making things so much more complicated than what our Lord ever
intended it to be people. It’s not the end time verses comparing how the
prophets spoke concerning the events that would take place in Revelation at
the end of this age we are now living in that people miss, it’s the simple
things the way our Lord intended it to be that many miss, and they are
settling for second hand doctrines rather than receiving the real truth
straight from God through Christ.
Williams New Testament translation
2Corinthians 11:2-4
2. For I feel a divine jealousy for you,
as I betrothed you to Christ, to present you as a pure bride to her one
husband. 3. But I am apprehensive that, somehow or other, as the serpent by
his cunning deceived Eve, your thoughts may be turned aside from
single-hearted devotion to Christ. 4. For if anybody comes along and
preaches another Jesus than the one I preached, or you receive another
spirit different from the one you did receive or a glad message different
from the one you did accept, you listen to it all right!
Paul takes a jab at the people here,
because he knew that he delivered simple, real truth, only to watch the
people listen to a bunch of false prophets come along and direct the
attention to themselves and their works. Oh how so many well intentioned
Christians get blindsided and sucker punched spiritually by those that
claim that they are of God, but in works deny Him. This I found out
personally for myself, having checked out many organizations and people who
claimed to be of God, only to find out later on by taking the time in the Word
for myself and rightly dividing the truth that in the end I was getting hit
by friendly fire, people who professed themselves to be wise were in
reality fools.
2 Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is
this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly
sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had
our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. (KJV)
The point that the Lord would like to get
across in this week’s study is simple, you as a Christian should question
everything, not only what you do, but who and what you are associating with
as well. You need to take time in the word of God to see what the Lord’s
take is on how He would have you present His word, and where your place in
the body of Christ is today. The simple question is, are you doing things because
others are doing it, you know like many of the traditions you have been
brought up with, or do you know that the steps you take today are ordered
of the Lord? God’s best and knowing His Word really is much simpler than
many make it out to be.
