The Greatest Love Of All

John 15:11-13 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. (12) This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (13) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (KJV)

You know that joy of the Lord that you have experienced? Well, it doesn’t get any better than this; in fact God Himself says that this is the greatest thing you can experience. Now that you have tasted the things of God and are a partaker of His divine nature you will want to know how to maintain this joy, because again you will not find anything greater.

Matthew 18:1-4 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? (2) And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, (3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (4) Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (KJV)

Wow, that sure contradicts everything else I see going on around me in this world. While everyone else is trying to be number one, our Lord is quite the opposite in what He considers number one in His realm. Remember the phrase ‘the last shall be first and the first last’? Well, it looks like when I put others first then I get to partake of the joy of the Lord. However, when I put myself first, well, that would make me the last would it not? Or should I say I would end up the tail and not the head?

Matthew 23:8-12 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. (9) And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. (10) Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. (11) But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. (12) And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. (KJV)

Mankind thinks that they need special titles so that they can be looked up to by others. Isn’t being a Christian, a child of God good enough? Heck, I even saw one guy who decided that he would label himself the most reverend. Oh he may be the most, conceited, arrogant, deceived, and ignorant, but as far as the kingdom of God goes, uh, I don’t see that going too far with our Lord. Kind of like the titanic, it had a big name and following, but once it was put out to sea it ended up drowning in destruction and despair; and this only to be followed by the next guy who titled himself the very most reverend, yikes.

Luke 22:24-26 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. (25) And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. (26) But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. (KJV)

A true servant of our Lord knows His place in the body, and knows that it only comes from pleasing God and not man. Do you desire the greatest that God has to offer? Then try some humility and you will find that it will never end. A perfect mature love casts out all fear.
