Leave It Behind
Philippians 3:13-15 Brethren, I count not
myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those
things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are
before, (14) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus. (15) Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus
minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even
this unto you. (KJV)
Ever find yourself angry at certain things
or people, issues you found offensive to you and in some cases that were
not handled properly? Does it really do you any good to hang onto these
issues, or can you truly let them go and move beyond these things? These
thoughts and imaginations are not coming from God, but rather someone else
is trying to get you distracted from what our Lord does have for you this
day. The quicker you can cast these things down, the less of a stronghold
they will have on you, eventually it is like swatting a bug away.
Isaiah 38:16-17 O Lord, by these things
men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou
recover me, and make me to live. (17) Behold, for peace I had great
bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption:
for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. (KJV)
So how does God handle sin, does He hold
it against us, or does He cast it behind and leave it there? How do you
handle sin or things that others may have done to you, that yes were not
right and an offense to you? Are you willing to cast it behind and leave it
there, or are you keeping it on the front burner and letting it simmer a
bit more?
Luke 4:6-8 And the devil said unto him,
All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is
delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. (7) If thou
therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. (8) And Jesus answered and
said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt
worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (KJV)
How about when the enemy comes along and
tries to paint a picture to good to be true, are you more willing to
entertain these thoughts, or have you exercised your Spiritual senses
enough to cast them down immediately before letting them take root?
Remember the smaller the plant, the easier to pull out. When you respond to
an issue, do you spend more time trying to analyze the situation, or are
you able to respond with the Word, quickly and effectively?
Matthew 16:22-24 Then Peter took him, and
began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be
unto thee. (23) But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me,
Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that
be of God, but those that be of men. (24) Then said Jesus unto his
disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up
his cross, and follow me. (KJV)
How do you look at people and judge a
situation, are you more apt to respond in the Spirit, or react in the
flesh? While many are people pleasers and would spend more time trying to
appease someone close to them, a few are willing to give a Spiritual
response that although it may be blunt and to the point, may not always sit
so well with those they have been close to. Are you leaving old things
behind, or are you falling behind in the eternal race of salvation?
