Rich In Good Works
1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are
rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain
riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (18)
That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute,
willing to communicate; (19) Laying up in store for themselves a good
foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal
life. (KJV)
Now coming off the heels of the
scriptures that warn us of the root of all evil, that being a love of
money, we are told what riches are really worth pursuing. Now those that
have some of the riches of this world are reminded not to rely on those
riches alone to make it home, but to continue in their pursuit of the
things above. Keep in mind that it is not money itself which many claim is
the root of all evil, it is the love and affection for it that draws many
away and drowns them in destruction.
Colossians 3:23-25 And whatsoever ye do,
do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; (24) Knowing that of the
Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord
Christ. (25) But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he
hath done: and there is no respect of persons. (KJV)
How prepared were you today? Now if
someone told you yesterday that the Lord was coming your way, and you would
be crossing paths, how much different would your attitude be? Are you doing
things to be seen by men, or do you do things whole heartily because you
know it is unto the Lord Himself? Keeping this in mind, or I should say
keeping your mind renewed, will allow you to be more productive and ready
to distribute to the necessity of the saints when they come across your
path, sometimes without you even being aware of it.
Matthew 25:37-40 Then shall the righteous
answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or
thirsty, and gave thee drink? (38) When saw we thee a stranger, and took
thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? (39) Or when saw we thee sick, or in
prison, and came unto thee? (40) And the King shall answer and say unto
them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the
least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (KJV)
You know, with the mind of Christ, and
keeping it renewed in the things of God, you will be distributing to the
need of the brethren; no matter who they are, or when you come across them.
You will not judge them by their outward appearance, nor will you hold back
because they can’t return the favor, but rather you realize that ‘when I do
what I am asked of God to one of His people, I am in essence doing it unto
Christ Himself’. A bit of a sobering thought to say the least is it not?
With that in mind how much more prepared will you be when another one of
God’s people comes your way?
Luke 14:12-14 Then said he also to him
that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends,
nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they
also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. (13) But when thou
makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: (14) And
thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be
recompensed at the resurrection of the just. (KJV)
The world and its worldly preachers are
more apt to make merchandise out of the people, seeking more of what they
can get out of them rather than distributing to their Spiritual necessity.
Those that seek their reward from above will be looking more at how they
can distribute and give to the people, being rich in good works and not
getting rich off the backs of the unsuspecting, treating them like they are
a number and not one of God’s own precious people.
