The Great Philanthropist

James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? (KJV)

In the world those that are rich and are willing to help others with their wealth are known as philanthropists. Those that truly know the doctrine of Christ and all the treasures of His wisdom and knowledge are known as Christians, Christ like people. In order to get rich in faith, one now needs to actively and whole heartedly pursue those things above in His realm, by letting go and no longer pursuing the things of this realm, and the short term riches this life has to offer.

2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. (KJV)

You know, our own Lord did quite well for Himself while He was here on this earth, and He didn’t have to be rich to do God’s will. Well, actually He was rich in faith, because He didn’t seek or pursue anything that was not beneficial to His Spiritual walk. However, He did have everything that was needed to carry out His calling, and when He left this earth, well, let’s just say He left having lived a rich and eternal rewarding life.

Proverbs 13:7-9 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. (8) The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. (9) The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. (KJV)

So what do you truly consider to be rich and rewarding in your life, the short term temporal riches, or the eternal ones that will last forever? Verse 8 gives a good example of what happens to many people, and yes I will include many of God’s people, that pursue the things of this life more than the things of their eternal life and end up poor excuses for Christians. In order to access the riches above you will have to let go of the riches below, and that is where many draw the line; and the light or the candle that burned brightly for a season is now flickering and ready to be blown out with the winds of other doctrines.

Proverbs 8:10-11 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. (11) For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. (KJV)

In this fallen world we are surrounded by and we are bombarded by those that think something in this world could ever bring peace and contentment to their lives. Oh people of God, once you have tasted the things from above, the true riches you have access to, you will never be satisfied with the things below, things well below the standard our God intended for you to seek and to live by.

Proverbs 8:17-19 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. (18) Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. (19) My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. (KJV)

You will know that you are truly one of God’s people when the things of His realm become more of a priority than the things this fallen realm could ever have to offer. God sent us His Son, the great Spiritual philanthropist, so that we too could become rich in faith.
