Lost In Translation
Matthew 26:27-29 And
he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all
of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth
of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in
my Father's kingdom. (KJV)
Somewhere between
heaven and earth, somewhere between God and man, the lines of communication
get crossed, cut off. For what the
Lord intended to represent the spiritual ends up getting played out on the
physical realm. This is not the first time it has happened, but unless one
is able to hear the message intended, they too will end up misguided.
John 3:3-4 Jesus
answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man
be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him,
How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his
mother's womb, and be born? (KJV)
Some things are
more obvious than others. Trying to reenter the womb is absurd, but not
anymore absurd than thinking a piece of bread or a sip of wine is going to
make me anymore spiritual.
Luke 5:36-38 And he
spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment
upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece
that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. And no man putteth
new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be
spilled, and the bottles shall perish. But new wine must be put into new
bottles; and both are preserved. (KJV)
Trying to
incorporate the old law and man’s doctrines into the new, will just leave
you bursting at the seams.
Luke 5:37
Bottles were not
glass containers, but skins of animals used as sacks for liquid. The old
wineskins had lost their elasticity, and would not hold the new wine, which
might still be in partial process of fermentation. Likewise the new
teaching of the kingdom of God could not be contained within the forms of
the Law, but must be expressed in new ways. A fresh revelation had come in
Christ, which demanded a different form of worship. (from Wycliffe
Commentary)
Hebrews 9:9-10 Which
was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts
and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as
pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and
divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of
reformation. (KJV)
The word figure
refers to parable, a symbol, carnal ordinances that now have a deeper
spiritual interpretation. We are now in the age of reformation, an age
where salvation is by grace through faith, and not of works. So anytime
someone decides they need to dunk someone in water, or eat certain foods,
or drink a certain beverage which they claim will bring them closer to the
Lord, just tells me that the wires got crossed, and the message got lost in translation.
