Regaining Consciousness

Romans 9:1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, (KJV)

Thayer’s definition for ,conscience’:

4893  suneidesis-

1) the consciousness of anything

2) the soul as distinguishing between what is morally good and bad, prompting to do the former and shun the latter, commending one, condemning the other; the conscience

One thing to keep in mind when dealing with our own conscience is that every believer is at a different point in their walk. For example, some are more mature, having walked with the Lord longer, having been given much, much is expected of them as well. Thus the importance of not trying to compare yourself with others, but rather knowing for yourself what the Lord is asking of you today and where is the place in the body of Christ that I should be operating in. In order to know the truth, which is the only thing that will set one free, it has to come directly from the source of truth Himself, that being Christ; allowing His Spirit to bear witness with our spirit so that we can be renewed and reminded of who we are in Him.

Romans 8:13-17 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (17) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (KJV)

The Spirit itself which is Christ, is bearing witness to our spirit, reminding us of who we are in Him so that we can remain conscious and alert to the realm of the Spirit. The more one stays in tune to the realm of the Spirit, the less likely they will get knocked unconscious and end up on their backside in this fallen one. How much, or with what measure you allow the Spirit to bear witness with yours and then be willing to walk in this realm, will determine how strong and effective you are to be used of our Father. The more you allow the Spirit of truth to have the influence in your walk, the more it sets you free from the spirit of fear and bondage which keeps many from moving forward in their walk. Once you were born again, you now become aware or conscious of a new eternal realm that our Lord expects us to grow and mature in daily, receiving all the spiritual blessings we have been blessed with in Christ.

1 Peter 4:1-2 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; (2) That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. (KJV)

Talk about an effective arsenal, it don’t get any more effective than the mind of Christ, who is seated at the right hand of the Father reminding us of the victory we have in Him. Given the fact that He was able to walk this earth and live a life without sin, is there any reason or excuse to why you are not making it a priority to hear His instructions on a daily basis? If you were going into battle, especially one that is a life or death situation and you had access to a winning battle plan, what excuse would there be if you entered the battle unarmed and ended up defeated? Christ is seated and now reminding you of the will of God and what it takes to do those things that are pleasing in His sight, having given you a conscious awareness of the things of His realm which will deliver you from this present evil one.

Mark 4:22-25 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. (23) If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. (24) And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. (25) For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath. (KJV)

Everything our Lord did was for our benefit so that we could be partakers of His divine nature, having escaped the corruption of this world which is lust, people lusting more for the things of this life and not the eternal one. The Lord died on our behalf so that we could have access to His heavenly realm to see and hear what was previously hidden, but is now made manifest to any and all that would call upon His name. If you don’t like how your walk is progressing, or if your life with the Lord seems stale and at a standstill, maybe you need to recheck the line of communication and make sure it is still open and functional. If you haven’t done what you have been asked already, or if your conscience is convicting you of something you know isn’t right with the Lord and you are unwilling to let go and move forward, then you will be stuck in a ditch and spinning your wheels going nowhere fast. Eventually what happens also is that the more you ignore your conscience, that being the Spirit bearing witness or trying to get through to your spirit, then what was given for you to know before will be taken away and stolen by the enemy, leaving you worse off then you were in the beginning.

Ephesians 4:22-25 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; (23) And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (25) Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. (KJV)

Each day that we wake up, our first priority as Christians should be to seek first the kingdom of God and our right standing with Him, and then all that is needed will follow. I picture being renewed in the spirit of your mind similar to a prize fighter who is reminded of what it will take to win his bout. Even though at times you may get hit and knocked unconscious, it is important to let the Lord revive you with His living waters and get you back on your feet and show you how to avoid getting knocked out. The more you become renewed in the spirit of your mind and let your conscience lead and guide you, being conscious of the Holy Spirit, the less likely you will get hit by the enemy. Once you have regained consciousness to the things of the Spirit, stay put, stay seated in the Heavenly realm, and you won’t be knocked out by the things of this one.
