The Truth Is
John 8:32-36 And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free. (33) They answered him, We be Abraham's
seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be
made free? (34) Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (35) And the servant
abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. (36) If the
Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (KJV)
All this week we have been making
reference to the word ‘one’ when dealing with God, one Lord, one faith;
basically seeing that ‘the truth’ is singular as well. Here is something to
ponder, have you ever looked at ‘the truth’ as being a person? Like our
Lord says, you shall know the truth, and the truth is what will set you
free. It is the truth in the Son that sets one free, and allows them to
remain free indeed.
John 14:5-7 Thomas saith unto him, Lord,
we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? (6) Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto
the Father, but by me. (7) If ye had known me, ye should have known my
Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. (KJV)
We see here that the Lord said that He is
the way as well as the truth and life, and that the only way one can access
God is through Him. The only way you can come to a working knowledge of
this truth is by knowing the Son personally, and letting Him show you the
way that leads to eternal life. Christ is not just a title, but it is a
name; in fact it is the only name that will get you access to the Father.
Like verse 7 says, if one knows Christ personally then they will have a
working knowledge of the Father as well, because Jesus Christ is the only
name under heaven that will get you into the realm of the Spirit.
1 Timothy 2:5-7 For there is one God, and
one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (6) Who gave
himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (7) Whereunto I am
ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie
not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. (KJV)
Paul was ordained for this purpose, to
speak the truth which He found through the revelation of Christ, which is
also the reason why he experienced so much opposition. The truth is in
Christ Jesus our one mediator, so that we can come to the knowledge of Him
and know for ourselves so that the truth can cast out all doubt and fear.
Strong’s definition for ‘verity’:
227
alethes (al-ay-thace'); from 1 (as a negative particle) and 2990;
true (as not concealing): KJV-- true, truly, truth.
What do you consider to be truth, and is
it something that lines up with the word of God so that you too can know
and not just guess or hope you are in good standing with God?
John 6:26-29 Jesus answered them and
said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the
miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. (27) Labour
not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath
God the Father sealed. (28) Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that
we might work the works of God? (29) Jesus answered and said unto them,
This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (KJV)
Given the fact that by the works of the
law no man is justified, what then is left for us to do? Well simply put,
the only work left is to believe in the work Jesus Christ did on our
behalf, and believe that He did a complete work as well. Again we see the
simplicity of the gospel, going from works to ‘work’, singular, believing
in the Son who has set us free and desires for us to stay free as well.
While many people have their own agendas for serving the Lord, most of
which as we see in verses 26&27 was for the outward man, those that
know the truth are seeking it for the inward man so that they can grow and
mature in the things of God. Are you still thinking you need to work your
way to heaven, or are you realizing the truth, that the work is done, and
now you just need to hear for yourself the personal message God desires to
give you through His Son?
Romans 1:15-17 So, as much as in me is, I
am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. (16) For I am
not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the
Greek. (17) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to
faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (KJV)
It’s the gospel of Christ, is where the
power is; so in essence those that don’t know Him and the truth are weak
and powerless. The Bible says, that we should be strong in the Lord and the
power of His might, and it is only through Christ that the righteousness of
God is revealed.
2 John 1:9-11 Whosoever transgresseth,
and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in
the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (10) If there
come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your
house, neither bid him God speed: (11) For he that biddeth him God speed is
partaker of his evil deeds. (KJV)
What doctrine are you giving credence to
today? Is it something from above, or is it something far below what God
had intended for you? As we have seen all this week through the Word is
that, God is consistent to point out that it is only by one Lord, through
one faith, by one name, and one teaching that He gives credence; while
anything else is just a cheap imitation of the enemy. Do you know for
yourself what the truth is, and how to abide in it as well?
